The story behind Local Braids

One unexpected encounter in the summer of 2022 changed the direction of Gabriela's work. This is the story that followed.

The unexpected encounter

Sometimes, all it takes is one unexpected encounter to discover something that changes the direction of your life.

My name is Gabriela. I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and I have always been someone who loves creating. From a young age, I was naturally good with my hands, patient, precise, and always curious to discover what I could create on my own.

But my true passion began in the summer of 2022.

I decided to braid my own hair. While I was out, a complete stranger stopped me and asked if I could braid her hair the same way.

I said yes.

And without knowing it at the time, that simple moment became the beginning of everything.

Two years of learning

After braiding her hair, I became fascinated by the world of braids. I started experimenting, discovering new techniques, and learning about the different methods and details that go into creating them.

For the next two years, learning and practicing became a constant part of my life.

I started small, with a little improvised space at home and just a few clients. But as my passion grew, so did my desire to learn and develop.

Growing at Fade Control

That journey eventually led me to Fade Control, the barbershop where I work to this day.

It was there that I gained some of my most valuable knowledge and experience. I had the opportunity to work with people from different cultures, with different styles, textures, and types of hair.

Every client taught me something new, and every head of hair brought a new challenge.

Braiding as expression

That experience taught me that braiding is about much more than technique.

It is a way of expressing yourself.

Over time, I developed my own style, my own eye for detail, and my own approach to the craft. And from that passion, Local Braids was born.

The work continues

Local Braids is a reflection of the way I work: with attention to detail, patience, individuality, and above all, genuine love for what I do.

I do not believe there are two identical heads of hair, nor is there one style that suits everyone. That is why every look is a process, combining technique, creativity, aesthetics, and the individuality of the person sitting in my chair.

And my story is still being written.

To this day, I never stop learning, experimenting, and improving my craft. I believe that when you turn something you truly love into your calling, there is no finish line. There is always another technique to master, another style to discover, and another person to inspire.

This is Local Braids.

My way of turning braids into an art form, and every head of hair into something personal, unique, and unforgettable.
